Our First Christmas Tree…

In our new house.  Isn’t it pretty?

O’ Christmas Lights, O’ Christmas Lights,

The cost of you is quite a fright!  O’ Christmas Lights, O’ Christmas Lights, Steal someone else’s I just might!  O’ Christmas  Lights, O’ Christmas Lights, I will buy you because I don’t want a fight!

Believe it, if it was up to me you wouldn’t have been bought.  Why did no one warn us about the astronomical costs of Christmas Lights? $160 bucks for just enough to do the outline of our house.  And we bought the LED lights (yes, more expensive) because of the economical and environmental impacts.  Well at least our house will look good when it is all said and done.

Gotta have the rockin’ christmas light house video.

And this website is just hilarious!

“OH SHIT!” moment #67 of owning a house:  The cost of Christmas Lights

It’s raining, it’s pouring and…

our roof leaks.  Yup.  The “joys” of owning a house.  No landlord to call and bitch and complain to.  Luckily Whitney and I have a roof certificate that certifies our roof from leaks for 2 years.  So it will get taken care of with no money out-of-pocket thankfully.

Some pictures of Goat Creek, right on the side of our property:

Thankfully the rain stopped. Another foot or two and there would have been flooding.

Basement Jaxx – Scars

Scars CD Cover

Scars CD Cover

Yup, my favorite house duo from the UK is back with a new CD.  Got it on Friday and have been listening ever since.  Scars is a perfect example of why I like their music so much: variety and quality of production.  This CD has stylings of all different kinds of music: from Hip Hop, Electronica, DnB, Ethereal, World Music, etc., etc., not to mention, the traditional Basement Jaxx take on House music.  Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton are two of best producers of music ever- they focus on using new sounds, layering throughout the songs and creating tracks that you can feel.  Two definite stand outs from Scars that will get play in clubs and probably remixed by DJs:  Raindrops and Feelings Gone.  Raindrops is probably one of the best videos I have seen in a long time- beware some nipple action goes on.

This CD fights for the best Jaxx album, but I still LOVE Rooty.  I continue to listen to it all the time, even though it came out like 8 or 9  years ago.

P.S.  I love the CD and Single Covers- this one is from the single “Feelings Gone”  featuring an awesomely punchy pachyderm with its feather headdress and Daft Punk-esque eye shield.

Impromptu Date Night

Whitney and I made our way to the Davis Farmer’s Market on Wednesday night, looking for the Chicken Lady from Cache Creek Meat Co.  hoping to score some pastured chicken, but to no avail.  I am guessing that she doesn’t come on Wednesday nights or she left early.  Wednesday night is full of food/street vendors which is cool, but we came to get chicken and produce!  So we know to come on Saturday’s for the good stuff.

We left and went to Jack’s Urban Eats in Natomas, which is a cool place that is half fast-food / half restaurant.  Not necessarily what we were expecting, but everything was really good.  They have these fries called the “Urban Fries”.  Holy sheep.  They are fried to order with a blue cheese dressing and spicy chili oil.  BEST.  FRENCH.  FRY.  TOPPING.  EVER.

Then we made our way to our favorite FroYo place in the Sacramento area:  Yog-Yog or their Yelps are here.  If you live in the Sacramento Metro area you need to get your ass there.  If you come and visit me, remind me to take you here.  After the great food and dessert, we went home to Nate Dog and watched the season premiere of House on TiVo.  Good times!

Hola.

Well finally, the time has come.  Nick went out and got himself a fancy little blog on WordPress.  Hopefully I will be able to keep up with it and post all sorts of stuff that is going on in my life.  I hope to document at least 4 main subjects:

  1. The house that me and my significant other, Whitney, purchased in February 2009 and all the adventures that go along with that.
  2. My cooking, eating and all out conquest to find and eat great food.
  3. All the trips and excursions that I find myself getting into.
  4. The little flock of backyard chickens that I own and are growing so quickly.

So there it is.  My first post.
